01
Use glass, not plastic
Plastic bags and containers leech plastics into your flower over time and allow trichomes to stick to the walls. Clear plastic also lets light through. Glass jars with airtight lids are the standard — mason jars, CVault containers, or the jars your flower came in. Keep them clean and dry.
02
Control humidity with a Boveda pack
Humidity is the single most important storage variable. Too dry (below 55% RH) and flower turns brittle, harsh, and loses terps. Too moist (above 70% RH) and it grows mold. Boveda 62% humidity packs hold your jar at optimal RH for 2 to 4 months, then need replacement. Worth every dollar.
03
Keep it dark and cool
UV light degrades THC over time and breaks down terpenes. Direct sunlight is the fastest way to ruin a jar. Store jars in a drawer, cabinet, or opaque container. Keep the storage area below 70°F — heat accelerates cannabinoid degradation. Avoid refrigerators, though (too humid and creates condensation).
04
Airtightness prevents oxidation
Air exposure oxidizes THC into CBN over time. CBN isn't bad, but it shifts the strain's effect toward sedation. Open the jar only when you need to, and close it quickly. A good seal plus a humidity pack keeps the jar stable for months.
05
What ruins flower fastest
Top cannabis-killers, in order: direct sunlight (days), high heat (weeks), low humidity below 50% RH (2 to 3 weeks), uncovered open air (days), and prolonged freezer storage (breaks trichomes). Any one of these is enough to noticeably degrade quality.
