First visit at Luxury Leaf in St. Louis: what should I know?
Luxury Leaf, the Missouri licensed cannabis dispensary at 1463 S Vandeventer Ave in The Grove, St. Louis, answers the first visit questions customers ask most on this page. Every answer covers the boutique itself, its Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 10 PM hours and its same-day delivery to the approved St. Louis ZIP codes.
The short version
Your first dispensary visit is a learning curve, not a commitment. Plan for 30 minutes, bring your ID, start small, and lean on the budtender. The smart first purchase is one small item, an eighth of flower or a pack of low-dose edibles, so you can dial in your own response before buying in larger quantities. Current pricing is on the live Dutchie menu.
Section 01
Before you arrive
- What should I bring to a dispensary?
- Government-issued photo ID proving you're 21 or over, driver's license, state ID, or passport all work. That's it. Bring cash too. Most dispensaries are cash-first with an on-site ATM, and credit cards generally aren't accepted.
- Do I need an appointment?
- No. Luxury Leaf is walk-in, Monday to Saturday 7 AM to 10 PM and Sunday 8 AM to 7 PM. Online reservations through the Dutchie menu skip the browse step, but aren't required.
- What should I wear?
- Whatever you want. Dispensaries are regulated retail, like going to a pharmacy or liquor store. No dress code, no judgment. Most regulars show up in street clothes.
- How much should I bring to spend?
- Enough for one small item, not a haul. An eighth of flower, a pack of edibles, or a single pre-roll is plenty for a first trip, because you don't know what you like yet. Check the live Dutchie menu before you come in so you can set your own budget against today's actual prices.

Inside the store
- What actually happens at the door?
- You show ID to the greeter or lobby staff. You sign in if it's your first visit. You wait in the lobby if there's a line (usually under 5 minutes at Luxury Leaf). Then a budtender walks you to the sales floor.
- What is a budtender?
- A trained dispensary staff member who walks you through the shelf, answers questions, and makes recommendations. Budtenders are the single biggest resource for new customers. Use them, ask anything.
- Can I smell the flower?
- Yes, usually. Most dispensaries have flower jars with screw-top lids, the budtender opens them and you smell through the top or a scope. Smelling tells you terpene profile before you buy.
- How long will I be in the store?
- First visit: plan 30 to 45 minutes including the ID check, browse, budtender consultation, and checkout. Return visits once you know what you want: 10 to 15 minutes.

What to buy first
- Should I start with flower or edibles?
- Flower if you already smoke. Edibles if you don't, no combustion, no learning curve on rolling, and you can dose precisely. For edibles, start with 2.5mg to 5mg per dose and wait 2 hours before taking more.
- How much THC should I start with?
- For inhalation (flower, vapes): start with one or two small hits and wait 15 minutes. For edibles: 2.5mg to 5mg is the standard starter dose. Effects from edibles take 45 to 120 minutes to peak, do not redose too soon.
- What's a good first-time product to buy?
- Four options that work: a single pre-roll, which is half a gram to a gram of flower already rolled. A pack of 5mg gummies. A one-gram vape cartridge. Or an eighth of mid-shelf flower. Current pricing for all four is on the live Dutchie menu.
- Should I buy an ounce my first time?
- No. An ounce is 28 grams, and if you don't love the cultivar you are stuck with almost all of it. Buy an eighth, which is 3.5 grams, and come back for the ounce once you know the strain suits you.

Dosing and your first session
- How do I not over-consume my first time?
- Start low, go slow. One hit of flower or vape, wait 15 minutes. 2.5mg edible, wait 2 full hours. You can always take more. You can't take less once it's in you. The worst dispensary experiences come from impatience, not product.
- What if I feel too high?
- You will not die. THC-only overdoses have never been medically recorded. If you feel anxious or overwhelmed: hydrate, eat, move to a calm space, take CBD if available, and wait. Most uncomfortable peaks pass in 1 to 3 hours. Sleep resets everything.
- What's a normal first-time experience?
- Mild euphoria, relaxation, slight giggling, food cravings, sometimes minor anxiety. Effects kick in within minutes for flower or vapes, 45 to 120 minutes for edibles. Peak intensity is 30 to 90 minutes after onset. Total duration: 1 to 3 hours for flower, 3 to 8 hours for edibles.
- Is it safe to drive after cannabis?
- No. Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal in Missouri and all other states. Even low doses impair reaction time. Wait at least 4 to 6 hours after flower or vapes, 8+ hours after edibles. Better: don't plan to drive after consuming.
